By the year 2025, nearly 85,000,000 jobs will be lost to automation, artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine learning. Most of those jobs are held by marginalized, underrepresented, and minority communities. About the Opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic financial expert to serve as our Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, reporting on revenue, training accounting staff, budgeting, disbursing funds to departments and vendors, managing risk, implementing policies, forecasting, and improving financial processes. You will manage the overall financial components of the organization, ensuring appropriate use of financial resources and ensuring that financial reporting at all levels (core and field) is in accordance with agreement terms. You will oversee budget development and administration, manage implementation of key financial and program activities, ensure efficient operational support for the programs team, and ensure compliance with federal regulations.

You will be responsible for providing leadership, planning, management and oversight of policies and procedures for accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, purchasing, internal controls, risk management, payroll, and taxes. You will also be responsible for management and oversight of Byte Back's financial operations, particularly surrounding policies and procedures, contracts, risk management, insurance, administrative services, and information technology services. Under the direction of the CEO, you will assist with strategic planning and setting organizational priorities. The Head of Finance will partner closely with the CEO to chart Byte Back's future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for Byte Back's suite of services.

About Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Recommend and implement systems, policies, procedures, and controls which assure that Byte Back's financial operation functions efficiently and effectively; is designed to account accurately for various grantors and funding streams; and complies with standard nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Provide regular reports to the CEO to keep him apprised of Byte Back's financial status and allow him to effectively carry out his fiscal responsibilities for the organization.
  • Oversee all aspects of program financial management, including financial systems implementation, budgeting, expenditure tracking, financial reporting, forecasting, accounting, and cost share tracking and reporting.
  • Generate reports to funders which accurately account for their investment in Byte Back.
  • Work with the CEO to create and monitor annual and long-term budgets and assist the Development team and Program Managers with the preparation of budgets for funding applications.
  • Work in partnership with the Chief Development Officer to track and analyze the success of fundraising activities and ensure adequate program funding.
  • Work in partnership with accounting firm to assure they can effectively monitor Byte Back's financial operation.
  • Supervise team on financial aspects including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Manage and track employee time reporting, payroll, and leave.
  • Manage annual audit process: prepare (with accounting firm) materials for the audit and work directly with the auditor during the field work and throughout the process and manage RFP, bid, and selection process.
  • Provide support for the Finance Committee of Byte Back's Board of Directors
  • Elevate staff's level of financial understanding through coaching, training, and collaborative efforts.
  • Ensure continual review of internal and strategic controls, communications, risk assessments and maintenance of documentation
  • Develop program budgets with teams and monitor budget pipelines
  • Lead development of the project's granting component, including development of transparent procurement processes; grantee expenditure tracking; grantee capacity-building in fund management and reporting; etc.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports to funders and grantees as required
  • Prepare quarterly and annual expenditure reports and prepare program pipeline estimates
  • Maintain good working relationships with government officials, foundation and corporate partners, and the NGO community
  • Coordinate closely with the CEO on administrative and financial matters and supporting risk mitigation measures

About Your KSA's

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; Masters preferred
  • At least seven (7) years' experience working with financial systems of complex development projects and grant programs
  • Extensive financial and administrative experience working with non-profits and non-governmental organizations. Experience strengthening the organizational capacity of nonprofit organizations is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience (with progressively increasing responsibility) in managing financial and administrative systems and operations
  • Has a solid working familiarity with US government financial, contractual, and administrative regulations, policies, practices, and reporting requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of the team, ability to be detailed-oriented, and ability to manage stress effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high-level of confidentiality on all financial matters
  • Working experience with Sage Intacct and advanced Excel skills
