As a leader in both digital inclusion and digital equity, we serve and train more than 500 adults every year to help bridge the digital divide. Byte Back's students are predominantly people of color, women, and unemployed or underemployed adults. By the year of 2025, nearly 85,000,000 jobs will be lost to automation and machine learning. We exist to reskill these individuals to help them be marketable for 21st century jobs. On average, our graduates who are hired increase their annual earnings by more than $23,000. About the Opportunity

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with extensive non-profit programmatic leadership and management experience interested in joining a dynamic team at Byte Back. The Head of Programs (Administration, Assessment, Impact) oversees Byte Back's growing portfolio of programs and serves as a key member of our senior leadership team sharing responsibility for ensuring the successful implementation of the organization's goals and objectives. A significant focus of this opportunity is oversight of Byte Back's programs and services, and the build-out and support of the leadership structure required to achieve the expansion of high-quality digital literacy and tech certification training services. The Head of Programs (Administration, Assessment, Impact) will provide senior administrative leadership to achieve effective delivery of Byte Back's entire portfolio of programs, and promote the use of data to plan, manage and evaluate programs, and drive quality management activities. You will oversee the entire portfolio of Byte Back programs as well as lead the integration, analysis, and assessment for continuous improvements, adjustments, innovations, and changes.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Programs (Administration, Assessment, Impact) will serve as a critical member of the senior leadership team and will collaboratively articulate, implement and operationalize the strategic vision, mission, and goals of Byte Back's Programs. The Head of Programs (Administration, Assessment, Impact) will oversee and continually evaluate the effectiveness of all of Byte Back's programs to provide ongoing feedback; guide strategic service delivery to strengthen funding diversification and program participant outcomes. The position offers the opportunity to be primarily home-based with the ability to travel to our DC office with a hybrid work schedule.

About Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Strategic Leadership and Thought Partnership
  • Work in collaboration with the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to establish a strategic vision and guiding philosophy that will inform short- and long-term program goals consistent with Byte Back's strategic plan and financial resources.
  • Identify, develop, and implement programs that increase Byte Back's effectiveness in advancing the interests of and providing services to historically excluded communities and the organization's key stakeholders.
  • Embed principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Byte Back's programmatic offerings consistent with Byte Back's Core Values.
  • Ensure programs are aligned and coordinated and barriers to collaboration are reduced to ensure consistency and strategic program planning and implementation.
  • Routinely evaluate and assess organizational and program participant needs and anticipate necessary shifts in programmatic needs (including which activities or programmatic offerings should cease or evolve).
  • Support fundraising efforts for the organization, including working with Development staff to craft strategies that will engage new funders, donors, and corporate partnerships.
  • Be conversant with Byte Back programs, achievements, strategies and goals across all program areas to be able to serve effectively as an ambassador for Byte Back and the communities we serve.
  • Establish annual program, departmental, and staff goals and objectives, track results against these goals and implement accountability protocols.
  • Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of each program and desired outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate program activities on a regular basis.
  • Implement objective and consistent program performance measurements across all Byte Back programs.
Talent Management
  • Manage team performance and carry out supervisory responsibilities, including assigning and directing work, evaluating performance, and delivering timely and constructive feedback in accordance with policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Mentor and help the team assess programmatic feasibility, identify opportunities, make connections, and effectively manage projects.
  • Deploy resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, leading and working with program staff to balance workload and effort, and provide regular feedback and mentoring.
  • Identify skill gaps in staff and work with Human Resources to develop necessary training modules to bring rigor, consistency and excellence to tasks that include: (1) program planning, budgeting, and evaluation; (2) project conceptualization, design, management, and evaluation; and (3) grant writing and administration.
  • Develop and implement staffing plans to align staff expertise and capabilities with responsibilities and to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Work with senior staff and Human Resources to identify and shape new positions when appropriate and participate in hiring decisions for new program staff.
  • Work closely with the Finance department to budget and monitor programmatic operations to ensure sound fiscal and system management.
  • Work closely with the Finance department to establish and implement grant administration protocols and procedures.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Finance, oversee the budget development process for the Program's department under the CEO's supervision and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility.
Curricula Development & Support
  • Analyze and update all program curricula through the following lenses: digital advocacy, digital literacy, tech equity, racial and social justice, and career and professional development.
  • Oversee Certified Byte Back Coach Training & Byte Back ProsĀ® Professional Development program.
  • Set the vision for coach, Scholar, and Alumni trainings.
  • Ensure trainings adequately prepare coaches to implement and consistently deliver high-quality programming with the goal of tech certification.
  • Build out a digital infrastructure to support professional development.

About Your KSA's

  • Possess a minimum of 7 years of demonstrated accomplishments in a management role, with a proven track record in managing effective teams as well as establishing and executing new programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop a cohesive and productive team with diverse levels of expertise; deliver on set goals; utilize creative thinking to engage staff; and maintain clarity of the Program team's roles and responsibilities.
  • A strategic mindset and ability to connect programs to organizational goals and outcomes.
  • Exceptional program, budget, talent, and grant management skills.
  • Proven results leveraging available resources effectively to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Experience managing staff that are dispersed geographically and maintaining cohesion among staff working remotely.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience in program development, assessment, and management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in implementing inclusion and engagement strategies both within organizations and with external constituencies.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and the character, integrity, and openness necessary to develop a rapport with people of varying experiences, backgrounds and philosophies.
  • Experience in managing foundation and government grants.
  • Experience working with Salesforce, a plus.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, make timely decisions and advise staff on multiple projects, priorities and deadlines while providing timely, comprehensive feedback.
  • Possess a proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and an interest in building a strong organizational culture.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral, written, grammar, proofreading and communications skills that demonstrate capacity to present a compelling case, persuade, engage, and excite while incorporating creativity and ensuring accuracy.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
